Empowering renters to claim their rights and stay housed.

About our services work

The Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) – formerly known as the Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA) – provides free, individualized services to renters in Ontario who are facing challenges in their housing. 


We offer the following two service programs.

Tenant service program:

Housing Stabilization

Our caseworkers work to empower renters by:

  • Providing legal information and resources to help them understand their rights and prevent eviction.
  • Providing legal information and self-advocacy guides on housing discrimination.
  • Negotiating on their behalf with property owners and managers in situations of housing discrimination to help them obtain, keep and enjoy their housing.

Legal Services

Our lawyers provide legal advice and/or representation for renters in Toronto who need support with:

Hours of operation

Monday to Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.

We are able to meet at other times by appointment.
We are closed on all weekends and statutory holidays.
