Description: This comprehensive training program is delivered in an engaging, plain language format that includes interactive activities including breakout rooms, scenarios, and question and answer formats. Activities will draw on real experiences of housing workers and provide attendees the opportunity to practice new skills gained.
Each module is 2 hours:
- Module 1 – The right to housing in Canada: a framework for housing workers
- Module 2 – Housing law basics: understanding the Residential Tenancies Act
- Module 3 – Landlord duties under the Residential Tenancies Act and tenant applications
- Module 4 – Human rights in housing: understanding the Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
- Module 5 – Eviction prevention: security of tenure and promoting healthy tenancies
- Module 6 – An overview of the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board
- Module 7 – Working with rent-geared-to-income tenancies, supporting residents with complex needs and preparing for and navigating tough tenancy situations
