Community Initiatives

At CCHR, not only are we a national organization, doing work throughout the country, but we also do on the ground community-based work, sharing knowledge and tools at a local level to support the right to housing.

In the City of Toronto:

We coordinate a Community of Practice that supports frontline housing workers across Toronto. This network brings together organizations from all over the city. We hold monthly meetings where we train housing workers on Ontario’s rental housing laws and invite other organizations to share knowledge about their work and resources.

We also provide one-on-one legal support for housing workers who need help with client issues, and we offer customized legal trainings for staff at their organizations.

This Community of Practice is a space for housing workers to connect, share ideas, and work together on the housing issues facing Toronto right now.

If your work involves supporting people with their housing needs and you are interested in joining the Community of Practice, contact us at educationteam@housingrightscanada.com.

In York Region:

We deliver the Neighbourhood Tenant Support Service (NTSS) which aims to provide accessible, low-barrier legal information to tenants. We meet tenants where they are, through door-to-door outreach and community tabling, to ensure housing rights information reaches those who need it most.

The project collaborates closely with community action tables and local agencies to strengthen tenant support and advocate for the right to housing across York Region. If you’re interested in getting connected with York Region NTSS, contact us at educationteam@housingrightscanada.com
